Burger king introduced a new product this week, rolling out the lower calorie option fries called Satisfries. With 20% fewer calories that BK’s original fries and 30% less than McDonald’s fries it’s giving people a “healthier” alterative. Burger King executives think this will be the next big thing, comparing it to diet soda according to an article in USA today, while others are not impressed.
We asked our Wellness Director Sherry Freeman to weigh in on the topic. Her response:
“The reality is people choose fast food. In fact, according to the Pew Research Center in April of this year, 44% of Americans choose it at least once every single week! Would us health-focused folks rather they skipped fast food altogether? Heck yes. BUT, I think that may be asking too much. So, to me, giving as many healthier options as possible at fast food chains is a really important way to help Americans (50 million every day) be at least a little less unhealthy.”
